What is RPC?
RPC is a local charitable organization committed to helping children, their families and communities in Ethiopia, East Africa. Established in 1999, we give people and communities in the poorest community tools to help them effect real change—improving life today and offering children a chance for a better tomorrow. We are part of a network of Christian Relief and Development Agency (CRDA) and Adama Child Focused network.

How do programs work?
RPC works directly with community members to design and implement programs that help families break the vicious cycle of poverty. We do not provide direct monetary assistance or hand-outs to families. Instead, contributions from sponsors are pooled, which means they are multiplied many times in value. A potable water system that costs about $12,000, for example, is made possible through the power of sponsorship funding.

Projects are designed to help communities develop long-term solutions to real issues affecting their lives. Programs are comprehensive. They are designed to have lasting benefits. For example, a growth monitoring program doesn't just care for babies in the first year of life, but provides for a child's overall health to be monitored from birth through age five. Growth monitoring includes immunizations, weight and growth checks, and education for mothers about proper nutrition and parental care for their children.

Each program is designed and evaluated with the child in mind; how will a child benefit; how will we measure success; what difference will have been made for this child once our work is completed.

(NB. But if the Donor interest is a hands-on to an individual child we have a different a hand on one-to –one sponsorship program. Please refer to our (orphan children sponsorship program) Respect

How can I make a difference?
RPC offers a number of ways for people to help make a difference in the lives of children, their families, and communities in Ethiopia. One such way is through child sponsorship. For $24.00 each month, you can sponsor a specific child and will receive information about that child, his or her family, and the community in which they live. Or you can sponsor a particular project, like school, by giving a regular contribution in any amount. Individual donations to ongoing projects are always welcome. For information about projects in need of funding, visit our Make a Donation page. If would like to know more about contributing through RPC, contact our Donor Relations staff at 251-221-112153/251-911-216269 or via our Contact Us page.

Can I sponsor a child?
Yes, child sponsorship is the cornerstone of our work with children and families. Sponsorship is of two kinds:

1. Not a hand-out to a specific child (support a child-centered project)

2. Hand out to a specific child (supporting a child) (refer: Orphans Children Sponsorship Program),

Not a hand out to a specific child is an approach to long-term development that invites a sponsor to build a relationship with an individual child and family while helping an entire community realize its full potential. Each sponsor receives the profile and photograph of a child and has the opportunity to get to know that child and his or her family through the exchange of letters, small gifts, holiday greetings or even a personal visit. Individual sponsors make regular donations, which RPC combines with funds from other sponsors, to implement programs in the sponsored child's community. Sponsor a child today!

Can I contribute to a project?
You can support a child-centered project through a one-time donation or through our project sponsorship program. For a minimum contribution of $10.00 per month ($120.00 per year) you can sponsor a project by "Stream," or area of child need—Orphan children sponsorship program, Street children rehabilitation program, Beggar women with their children rehabilitation program, HIV/AIDS program. Your Project Sponsorship contributions will always go to the neediest project within your chosen project stream. Some of the results: a community of children is vaccinated against a deadly disease; a school is built where none existed before; or a mother's tailoring shop triples the family's income, children get basic needs, street children get out from their street life etc. For more information about Project Sponsorship, contact our Donor Relations Executives. Project sponsors receive a yearly report so you can learn about the achievements you helped make possible. Project support can be made anytime, in any amount.

What types of projects are implemented?
RPC works in five critical and interrelated areas: Growing Up Healthy, Learning, Livelihood, Habitat, and Building Relationships. Projects are designed to provide for basic needs, develop safe and secure environments, build a sense of community, and help people achieve their personal goals and objectives. Each sponsored family has the opportunity to participate in the design and implementation of the projects underway in their respective community. Children are made active participants in their own community's development. This approach is known as Child-Centered Community Development.

How will I know my contributions Will make an impact?
RPC keeps sponsors and donors informed of the progress being made in their sponsored child's community through Annual Progress Reports, updated photos, and Program Reports. In addition, those sponsoring children are encouraged to correspond with their sponsored child to exchange information and obtain the latest updates on their progress. Our Donor Relations Executives can help answer questions or concerns regarding your contributions. We are accountable to you.

How is RPC different from other organizations?
Through RPC, RPC is committed to long-term development programs to help children and families achieve their full potential. Except in emergency situations, RPC does not provide direct assistance. Instead, we help communities develop, grow, and ultimately support themselves. In addition, we believe a vital part of a sponsorship program is the relationship that a child can have with a sponsor. We also provide the opportunity and encourage sponsors and children to write to each other to share and exchange information.

How much of each contribution is used for program work?
RPC is proud to have met the standards of renowned international NGOs in wisely using donated funds. Eighty-one percent of every dollar raised goes toward implementing programs that benefit children and their communities. These funds help build communities to a point where they can sustain themselves without RPC’s assistance. For more information, please visit our financial page. What is the history of RPC?
Sunday school teachers from 11 different denominational churches gathered regularly, under the umbrella of Evangelical churches Fellowship of Nazareth. These young men and women under the leadership of Samuel Assefa had their own prayer and meeting time. One day in January 1999, the teachers talked about this. They said, “Let’s pray for street children.” They prayed and received a vision to reach them holistically (physically as well as spiritually). This is how “Remember the Poorest Community (RPC)” was established.

RPC is one of the ministries that are called by GOD to make His visitation of Ethiopia real.

Currently RPC has the following programs:

1. Orphan and Vulnerable children support program (603 children)
2. Street Children reintegration and rehabilitation program (100 children)
3. Education program (179 Kindergarten children)
4. Beggar women rehabilitation program and
5. HIV/AIDS prevention and care giving program

From these beginnings, RPC has grown to an organization focused on children affected by deep poverty.
